Production= Success

The production of telenovelas is so important because the time and effort put into making every scene and episode relates to the success of the novela. The novela "El Rostro de Analia" was made in 2008, which was a year in which technology wasn't as advanced as it is now. That idea is supported by how the novela was produced. As I watched this novela, I realized that there weren't many location changes; they maintained pretty constant, which demonstrates how the producers might have wanted to be able to have constant locations in order to control their environment. That meaning that those locations were easily managed. The locations are the mansion where the family lives, the church, the company, the house in the bad neighborhood, the Dr.'s house... basically anywhere that was a location indoors. Although they had locations inside, there were also scenes outdoors, but very little. I feel that that was the case due to the public being able to interrupt, or the area wasn't that plentiful with beautiful scenes. The outdoors scenes were either outside a college setting or the beach.

In addition to the locations demonstrating the less advanced technology, the way the actors act and dress also show production means. Whenever there is a fight scene, it just seemed so fake; I know it is supposed to be fake but the way they interacted made it so hard for me to believe what was happening was "realistic". As a result, the fighting scenes really irritated me. I know production only creates the scene, but there should have been a better way of making the fights seemed more realistic compared to now. Along with that, I realized that the wardrobe was constant with the character Camila. Camila dressed the same whenever she wasn't at the stripped club, which was understandable since she was a lower class it can be assumed she didn't have much money to have different clothes. Although that's the case, what really got me was the fact that at the strip club her outfits stayed the same. From what I noticed, she had at least 3-4 different outfits whenever she danced.

By realizing that, it made me wonder the production budget and how they distributed it. Production has so much they do and things they need to sacrifice, and the audience doesn't realize that because we're thinking about the telenovela and not all these little things that make up the scenes and episodes. If the audience was really able to think and discuss what we discussed in class, they'd realize that production of a telenovela takes so much time. They have to remake scenes countless of times, decide a budget, make sure the acting is correct, make sure the locations are good enough, the music fits the scene, wardrobe is correct, etc. All these things matter, and how well they are executed determines the success of the novela. Since I was so hooked watching every episode, it is safe to say that the production in "El Rostro de Analia" made it successful.

  1. I also always kind of blew off the production team on shows and movies. I would think, "Now how could they miss a detail like that?" After learning how much time and effort goes into the production of just one episode of a telenovela, I have nothing but respect for the people who are able to produce so much in such a small amount of time. You mentioned how technology wasn't very advanced in 2008, and it made me think about how far technology has actually advanced to this year. 2008 was only 10 years ago, yet it is amazing how many developments and improvements have been made in that amount of time. I wonder if maybe some unsuccessful telenovelas might have been more successful if they were made in the present day with the better technology we have now?
