Sin Senos.....

The name of my telenovela is "Sin Senos no hay Paraiso", translating to “without breasts, there is no paradise”. This is only a slight theme in the aspect of the whole show, but an important enough to make the title of the show. The antagonist’s daughter is in love with the protagonist's boyfriend, and to try and win him over she gets breast implants along with many other major plastic surgeries. On Netflix, there are actually two series with the same name, and the second one is a remake. From the description I read about the first one, made in 2008, it seems similar: they use the exact same characters names, and the first episode has to do with breast implants, but this series has a completely different target audience. It is a high school drama, much like rebelde or One Tree Hill, with very immature teenage problems and scenarios. I really like how the writers of the 2016 version were able to take a simple plot like that and intensify and make it more complex. This version of the series brings in drug lords, jail, and even a sort of slavery into the plot. The writers were very creative in the use of changing the plot of the story to make it something completely new and original, even if they use the same names and the same small plotline.

I also think the sexualizing of breasts is very important in this series. The main antagonist, the drug lord of the neighborhood, is always wearing extremely low cut dresses that are very obviously sexual. This is a normal characterization of the evil woman in a telenovela. She often uses her sexuality to get what she wants and control powerful men, so when her daughter comes to her looking to win over a boy, she does not hesitate to get her all the enhancements she wants. Hence the title, there is no paradise without breasts- She will not get what she wants without the ability to seduce and control people.
