the Love Story and the Role of Production
Most
(but not all) telenovelas are about love. You have to give the audience what
they want to keep them coming back for more, and let’s face it, deep down
everyone needs a good love story. It is what gets us attached to a show. My telenovela
does a good job of this, and it features more than one love story that keeps
bringing the viewers back.
There are certain things that make a
love story “epic” and Rubi and Alejandro have all of them. They are both
gorgeous—her with her long black hair and perfect body, and Alejandro being
tall, dark and handsome. His smile is beautiful, and Rubi has that “sad,
nostalgic beauty” that a female protagonist needs. She must be just as
beautiful when she cries, and she definitely is. Most important of all they
have chemistry. When he looks at her, it’s like she’s the only girl in the
world he could ever need. Their body language shows how much they care about
each other. Always touching, and holding hands—and every kiss is filled with passion
and love and lust and everything that makes a kiss great. It’s the kind of love
story that makes you want that kind of love, which is important in a
telenovela. People are more likely to enjoy the show whenever it features
something like that, and gives the viewers hope for their own lives. While a
lot of it has to do with the actors, a good bit is also the production team.
Without the production team, the show
literally can’t go on. It’s filled with writers, and lighting technicians, and
camera men—all very necessary aspects to a telenovela. Of course there must be
a lot of chemistry involved for a love story to be epic, but a lot of it comes
from the background stuff as well. The writers have to write things in a way
that keeps the audience hooked. There must be obstacles and times that the
couple is together to keep viewers hopeful. Lighting is important, it needs to
set the mood for the characters and make things seem perfect. Same with the
music: it adds romance to the scene. If they play action type music in a scene
that you want passion, it doesn’t work. There needs to be the right type to set
the mood you are trying to create, and if you want one of love, the music needs
to match that. There is definitely a lot of pressure on the actors because
either the chemistry is there or it’s not, But there is a lot more that goes
into making a love story epic than the acting itself. It’s everything mixed in
to make one love story that people can’t get enough of.
I agree that people enjoy watching telenovelas in which the actors have excellent chemistry, and I like that you brought up the fact that it gives viewers hope for their own lives. I hadn't thought of that specifically until now, but it makes sense, especially for people in the younger generations. We dream of having that kind of passionate, perfect romance. Of course, people of all ages enjoy telenovelas, and the sheer drama of the story line keeps viewers hooked as well, but I think that hope for true love, whether for ourselves or others, is something that all of us hold dear... The idea is just more romanticized by younger people.
