While watching “Kara Para Ask,”the Turkish drama that I chose to be my telenovela, I noticed many of the commonalities which we discussed in class. The action is never ending, especially as it is more of a thriller-type of telenovela, and as was mentioned in class, it always ends in a cliff hanger. It’s funny, though I’m watching it on YouTube I can always tell where the commercial breaks were meant to be because of this! Also, though she was slain in the beginning, there was a pure, symbolic virgin in the story (who was the fiancé of the lead male character). There is also a rags-to-riches aspect involved, or rather, riches-to rags, because one of the families has lost its fortune and now must accept a totally different lifestyle than the one it has been used to.
It is also striking how much drama the writers manage to fit into one episode! I’m surprised and impressed; in the first episode I watched I felt like enough drama had occurred to fill an entire season of any regular TV show. I’m excited to continue watching!

  1. I agree with the commercial break thought. I can tell when there is supposed to be a break by the abrupt pause in the story line and a quick transition to another characters scene, sometimes it is almost too abrupt, not giving any time to comprehend what has happened. The ending on a cliffhanger also really intrigues me, I end up watching many more episodes than I intend to because I want to know what happens next, and it's so easy with Netflix.
