#Open response 2: What goes into making a good telenovela

There are several elements that go into making a hit telenovela. Something that is vital to the success of a telenovela is how good the production team is. One of the most important elements of the production team is the writing team because without a good story line, there is no show. This can be said especially when telenovelas were first created because they all followed the same storyline. The writers had to think of different scenarios with similar problems because thats the story line audiences wanted to here. Another important element to a successful telenovela is the cast. A lot of mistakes creators of telenovelas make is that they choose their actors based off of looks rather than actual talent. Bad actors can cause several problems such as creating a disconnect with the audience. This can also be applied to romantic relationships in telenovelas. Good chemistry in a romantic relationship elevates the storyline. Even in situations where there is weak dialogue, the relationship between the two actors can outweigh the bad writing. This leads to another point on why audiences like love stories so much. Pretty much every telenovela ever created involves some kind of love story. Many follow the same patterns such as the cinderella type love story and all end the same where the couple lives "happily ever after", yet audiences still get hooked on the show, despite the predictable ending.

  1. I agree, the writers have to be intelligent and creative, they have to make something special of the same storyline. For example, the telenovela I'm watching, Sin Senos no hay Paraiso, is a remake of a show with the same name made in 2008. The title literally means "without breasts, there is no paradise", and that is a theme in both shows. The writers of the 2016 version had to make it unique from the 2008 version to get people to watch it. As for the "happily ever after" theme, I'm still not used to that. Even though I know there will be a happy ending, I'm still not expecting it.
